Outside the Box is an innovative program designed specifically for TAG & high-ability students entering grades 8-10 in Fall of 2018. Teens will pursue topics of interest through a unique combination of in-depth, challenging academic explorations, group activities, and opportunities to explore expanded problem-solving through new experiences. The program offerings allow for self-discovery, excitement, and challenges to match students' interests and abilities. Participants select topics to expand current interests or investigate new areas while meeting others who share the same interests.
Outside the Box MEETS July 9-20, 2018, Mondays-Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Oregon State University campus. Each day students attending the program are involved in four different topics of their choosing. Courses are held in OSU classrooms and laboratories.
Outside the Box OFFERS a wide range of courses presented in a fun, fast-paced educational environment. Courses are taught by dynamic and engaging OSU faculty members as well as artistic and talented community members. Popular courses have been Fashion Design, GameMaker, Physics, Biology, Psychology, LEGO Robotics, Graphic Design, Video/Radio/TV Production, Acting, and Interior Design. Team building, group problem-solving, and planning for future study and career choice is woven thorughout the courses.
Outside the Box is SPONSORED by OSU Precollege Programs, corporate and private donations and has been developed with guidance from an advisory board of OSU personnel, public school administrators, and area TAG specialists.
